Haiti placed as 1st runner-up while Colombia settled for 2nd runner-up post for Miss Universe 2016
A very surprised and teary-eyed Iris Mittenaere walked centerstage after host Steve Harvey shouted “France!” as the new Miss Universe 2016. A touching moment where 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach also cried as she embraced and passed the coveted crown to Miss France. Iris bested 86 other hopefuls as she made it to the top 13, top 9, 6 down to the top 3 finalist. Her stunning beauty and curves wowed the jam packed SM MOA Arena in Pasay City Philippines, when she took the catwalk in her presentation of the Moulin Rouge as her national costume. Adding to her scores as well when she answered the question-and-answer portion very intelligently.
Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier immediately embraced Miss France when she realized she got the 1st runner-up title. Everyone initially thought they were expecting a revenge for Miss Colombia after the top 3 finalists were called but ended up for a third placer. Last year was etched in history when Harvey made a mistake in announcing the winner for the 2015 Miss Universe, thus tagging last year Miss Colombia Adriana Gutierrez as the winner but for just less than two minutes.
Hometown bet Maxine Medina, hoping to bring a back-to-back crown for Miss Philippines landed on the Top 6 but was not able to make it pm the final round.
